Wavelength

Read the room, not the answer.

A game about how other people think. One player sees a hidden target on a scale between two opposites — Overrated to Underrated, Too Hot to Too Cold — and describes that exact spot in one word. Everyone else moves the dial to where they think the word lands. You never win on knowledge. You win by guessing how one particular person uses a word, which is why it works with people you met an hour ago.

How to play

  1. One player is the psychic. Only they see the target on the dial.
  2. They give a one-word clue that points at the target along the spectrum.
  3. Everyone else moves their own dial to where they think the clue sits.
  4. The target is revealed. Closer guesses score more, and the psychic scores with the room.

What you need

A phone each and at least three people. Everyone opens the same link and types four letters. Nothing to install, no accounts. In the same room, put the shared screen on a TV. Spread across the country, play it over a video call with the shared screen on your phones.

Good for

Opening the night. Groups who just met. Anyone who likes arguing about what a word means.
